DRIFTERS_film.jpg

DRIFTERS is a modernist take at documenting the British fishing industry in the 1920's. Inspired by contemporary directors like Sergei Eisenstein and his BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN, Director John Grierson follows a fishing vessel off the British coast of the North Sea using montage, rather than psychological characterization, to express dramatic tension.

UK vocal artist Jason Singh uses the human voice in combination with sampling and live effects to make a live soundtrack matching the film's modernist flow and rhythm.

DRIFTERS with Jason Singh’s live soundtrack will play at two unique venues during TIFF 2020. At the Pelagia fish landing at Sommarøy (Thu, Jan 16th), a one-hour drive from town, and at Stakkevollan Auditorium (Wed, Jan 15th).
