Just keep shooting! Because if you do, you might end up with something like this film if you are lucky – a proper feast of a zombie flick. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD starts out true to the conventions of the genre, as the set of a cheap zombie TV-special is suddenly overrun by real undead, and bloodbath ensues. Oh, and the whole 37 minute long scene is done in one take – hence the title. After this bloody affair we jump back in time and see the director Higurashi agree to make this low-budget gore fest one month earlier. As preparations get underway, several seemingly innocuous details pass by us, and when thel shooting is about to begin, we suddenly witness a spectacle worthy of Ed Wood. And the camera just keeps rolling!
Shinichiro Ueda has written, directed and edited this heartfelt tribute to moviemaking in general, and zombie flicks in particular. An original take on what is seemingly a vital genre still!
