Viggo Mortensen is “Tony Lip” – an Italian-American raised in the streets of New York. He is looking for work and accepts an offer as driver for Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a classical pianist heading out for tour in the Southern States of America. It’s 1962 and not very safe for a successful, braggadocious black man.

GREEN BOOK is based on the true story of Don Shirley and “Tony Lip” Vallelonga – a mismatched pair who travelled in the Southern States with “The Negro Motorist Green Book” as their guide. The book was a guide for Afro-Americans for relatively safe hotels and restaurants along the highway. The couple finds a new respect for each other as they face the injustice and harsh truths in 1960s America.
