Program 2019

jafar_panahis_3_faces_se_rokh_-_trailer

A young girl, Marziyeh, fights to pursue her dream to become an actor – to her family’s strong dismay. She reaches out to Behnaz Jafari, one of Iran's most famous movie stars, sending her a video clip where she complains and cries for help – and threatens to take her own life. Together with a male colleague (director Panahi), the concerned Jafari travels to the Iranian countryside to find the girl. Although the backdrop is dramatic, the search for Marziyeh is filled with humorous meetings with people along the road and in the girl’s mountain village. Then they hear about an old lady, a former actor, living in solitude at the outskirts of the town…

The title refers to the three female actors, all playing themselves, and all having experienced disrespect from society. They are in different stages of their careers; one from before the Islamic Revolution, one a popular present-day star, and one desperately wanting to get started.
