JAUJA Trailer | Festival 2014

Viggo Mortensen stars as Gunnar Dinesen, a somwhat clumsy and nervous Danish Captain, in this visually stunning and oftentimes humorous period piece set in 1882. The Argentinean army has launched a military campaign against the aboriginal population of Patagonia. Dinesen has come with his fifteen year-old daughter Ingeborg to work as an army engineer. Ingeborg falls in love with a young soldier, and soon runs away with him. To get his daughter back, Dinesen musters all his confidence and travels from the lush seaside and into the arid desert controlled by the mysterious deserted soldier Zuluaga.

JAUJA is a story of man’s search for his daughter. Just as he seems to have lost all strength and hope, the path leads him into the complete unknown, and his journey becomes existential, even metaphysical. A powerful and enigmatic slow-motion Western about a forgotten chapter in colonial history.
