Mr. West, American president of the YMCA, heads for the USSR to spread his movement. His wife is concerned about the Bolsheviks: Since the American press always depicts them in rags, they must be dangerous savages, or what? The naïve Mr. West takes a cowboy-dressed companion along as protector, but upon arrival his friend disappears, and Mr. West is robbed of his suitcase and left at the mercy of a gang of thieves. Who will come to his rescue? Did the Bolsheviks really tear down Moscow’s cultural landmarks? And who is this guy called Lenin?
THE EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF MR. WEST IN THE LAND OF THE BOLSHEVIKS is the first anti-American Soviet movie. A clear cut parody of the American view of Soviet, it is delivered in a style that mimics the American silent movies of its time. Fun, engaging, and a propaganda charged peek into a by-gone era – or a parallel to our own.
Don't miss this screening, with musical score by Tore Morten Andreassen (band leader), Håkon Gebhardt, Emil Bekkevold, Arto Rinne and Dimitrij Demin!
