TIFF 2019 14.-20. januar

14.-20. januar 2019

Films from the North is Tromsø International Film Festival’s program for films from the Barents Region and other circumpolar areas.

The sidebar has traditionally been reserved for shorts and documentaries and has been tremendously popular, with more than 4000 tickets sold annually. For the 2019 edition we will also accept feature length films into the program, as this format has become more and more common in the regional production. Shorts and docs will, however, still be the core of the program.

Tromsø International Film Festival has for many years travelled to Russia to present silent film concerts as well as short films from the Barents region. The latter is now set to take place, with a tour visiting nine different cities over ten days from September 20th to the 30th.

Seven films were awarded at the festival's closing ceremony at KulturHuset on Saturday January 20th. TIFF's main award, the Aurora prize went to WESTERN by German director Valeska Grisebach. Valeska Grisebach also talked in depth about her great film in this segment of Film Talks.

Saturday seven prizes were awarded at Tromsø International Film Festival's official closing ceremony. Valeska Grisebach's WESTERN (Germany, Bulgaria and Austria) won this year’s main prize, the AURORA at Tromsø International Film Festival. Grisebach has been a guest at the festival and were present at the ceremony.

ANGELS WEAR WHITE (China and France, 2017) by Vivian Qu received the International Critic’s Award FIPRESCI.
