Cairo 2011: Noredin is the everyday corrupt police detective who makes money taking bribes from street vendors and landlords. He works at the infamous Kasr el-Nil Police Station where everyone is expected to look after themselves. But the murder of a Lebanese singer at the Nile Hilton Hotel changes something in Noredin. What initially seems to be a “crime of passion” turns into an investigation concerning the very power elite of Egypt. Instead of keeping a low profile, Noredin starts asking questions no one wants to know the answers to. At the same time as his colleagues withdraw from him, the streets of Cairo are about to erupt.
THE NILE HILTON INCIDENT is a tense, police thriller with political implications. Its noir elements of corruption and cynicism mirrors the Mubarak era about to end. Ultimately, Noredin’s struggle is overtaken by history.
