Program 2018

let_them_come_trailer_festival_2015

Nouredine lives an ordinary life with everyday problems, like his hypochondriac mother telling him she will die if he does not find a wife. And so, following her wishes, he marries his childhood friend Yasmina. When the Algerian government bans a popular islamist party (FIS), political unrest turns into civil war, and the conflict between the army and islamist terrorists becomes a factor in the young couple’s lives.

The dark decade (1990s) and the Algerian civil war make up an oft-forgotten conflict with many parallels with our own time. This film delves into how the lives of ordinary people in Arab countries are affected by fundamentalism, and what gruesome conflict does to those it strike through powerful portraits of a family and people around them.
