In The Magic Castle, a kitschy, glaring neon motel not far from Orlando’s Disney World lives young mother Halley and her six-year-old daughter Moonee. Although located only a few miles away from the “Magic Kingdom”, little in their lives resembles the allurement of the famous theme park. Young Moonee, however, is hell bent on making her existence in her new neighborhood as exciting as possible. While her mother is struggling to make ends meet, Moonee freely roams the neighborhood always looking for the next bit of fun to have, only to realize that not all in life is as simple as it should be.

THE FLORIDA PROJECT is both touching and funny as it explores the challenges of  a small family left on the fringes of American society. It is visually mesmerizing, but remains firmly naturalistic, making room for some impressive performances from the cast.
