Poetry as art and a means of expression is strikingly popular in Burma/Myanmar – a country that is changing fast after the five-decade long dictatorship was ended in 2011. Poetry has been a way to resist and endure tyranny. The stories and poems in BURMA STORYBOOK circle around Maung Aung Pwint, the country’s most famous dissident poet alive today, as he waits for his son to return from exile.
BURMA STORYBOOK, beautiful and slow-paced, presents an impressionistic collection of scenes and tableaux from a nation in search of itself after the «ice» has withdrawn. The film itself is composed like a poem – free from the frames of metrics and formalism. Film score is composed by Tromsø ambient artist Biosphere.
Introduction and director present at screenings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
