Locked away from the rest of the world, the young people of Gaza dream of leaving behind their isolated strip of land. Some find an escape in surfing. The group’s mentor, Abu Jayab, has taught them how to ride the waves. One of the kids, Ibrahim, dreams of learning how to make surfboards and one day opening a surf club. Sabah, whose father taught her to swim and surf, is no longer permitted to play in the water, as it is not considered acceptable behavior by a young woman.
This charming documentary shows how surfing give kids an opportunity to experience a small slice of freedom. With Gaza’s bombed out ruins as a backdrop, we follow them into the waves.
