Philipp is a self-centered actor who seems obsessed with his career and has little time for friends. One day his uncle Walter shows up at his doorstep. A former bear tamer and the black sheep of the familiy, Walter is his nephew's very antithesis. Philipp reluctantly lets him stay with him for a while, and gradually they make friends. They also become increasingly involved in the life and well-being of Victor - Phillip's Moldavian, single parent neighboor.
THE SHINE OF DAY is smart, low key and heart warming. Philipp Hochmair and Walter Saabel play slightly fictionalized versions of themselves, which adds a striking sense of authenticity to the film. In a time where more and more revolves around being famous and successful, THE SHINE OF DAY reminds us of how fullfilling it is to commit to everyday life and make a difference for other people.
